MotorKhana 1 - Eastern Creek Skid Pan

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

A full field of 34 drivers competed in Motorkhana 1 at Eastern Creek on February 19. A big thankyou to Susan Kempt, Ray Hkiek and Arthur Scerri for running the event in my absence. A lot of new family members took up our new pricing incentive to do their first time motorsport event. Attached are the results.

The next event is The Introduction to Motorsport Course at Marulan Driver Training Centre on March 18. This course teaches you the fundamentals of car control on the race track and then we will do a short hillclimb in the afternoon to put all your new skills into action.

Supersprint Rnd.1 2012

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Round 1 of the 2012 Clubsport calendar got off to a great start at Wakefield Park on January 22 with Round 1 Supersprint. The fear of a hot January day disappeared and a cool, mostly dry day resulted in some good times being put down. The combined sprint session times are attached.

The Committee has reviewed the Class structure and the only change is to allow all DOT rated tyres to be used in the BMW classes. This means tyres such as Kumho V710 and Hoosier R6/A6 ( two liners) may be used but will be bumped up to the next higher class because of performance advantage. These tyres are not suitable in wet conditions if the track is declared wet and will not be allowed to run in such conditions.

The next event is a Motorkhana at Eastern Creek on February 19. Susan Kempt will run this event with the help of Ray Hkiek whilst I am away at another event.

Happy motoring in the fast lane

Motorkhana 2 Results

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

The final Clubsport event of the year being Motorkhana 2 was run at Eastern Creek on November 20 with a full field of 34 drivers. The day featured scorching morning temperatures followed by a wind change and showers in the afternoon.

The four different courses tested everyone including 1 test that featured reversing into garages, that certainly tested quite a few. This time the Quattro cars did not prevail with 1st going to Allan Haywood in the nimble E82 125i (fitted with new Michelin Pilot Sport tyres for that extra edge), 2nd to Murray Friend in his M roadster (watching Murray's handbrake turns is quite sight) and 3rd was new member Jay Davey. Special encouragement award went to "L Plater" Lisa Gray who improved dramatically during the day.

Thank you to the Officials Arthur Scerri, Ray Hkiek & Susan Kempt who stood out in the weather and Sue Nolan who ran the computer for the results.

Have a great end of year and see you in the fast lane in 2012.

BMW/Porsche Challenge Results

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Expectations were high for the 7th running of the BMW/Porsche Challenge Trophy with each Club having won it 3 times each. Porsche put a lot more effort this year in Team selection which obviously paid off winning 2011 by 105 to 90.

BMW had convincing wins in Class 3 and 5 but Porsche had wins in Class 1, 2 & 4. Two breakouts, a DNF and a crash in practice did help our cause.

Congratulations to Porsche Club NSW for a well earned victory but wait till next Year!

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Round 7 was held in very warm conditions at Eastern Creek on September 18. A full field of 98 cars entered the day combining with Porsche Club NSW.

The day was marred by on-track incidents but around that was some intense competition between the two Clubs. Detailed results are attached and congratulations to the Class Winners in our 2011 Championship. A big thankyou to the many volunteers who manned the flag points, ran the tower and the grid to handle such a big field.

Supersprint 6 - Wakefield Park

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Round 6 of our Sprint Championship was completed on Sunday August 27 in brilliant Goulburn winter weather: clear skies, no wind, great!

A full field of 60 entered with some cars we haven't seen for a while returning, good to see Carl Lindemann in the Z3R and Nelson Da Silva in his E36 lightweight again at the pointy end. Good track conditions saw quite a few PB's and the only disappointment was Glen Potter's E30R front suspension letting go in a big way necessitating a flat bed tow to dig him out of the infield. Fasted Time of The Day went to Martin Higgins in his E36 M3RT with a quick 1:02.5.

The next event is Round 7 and our annual joint meeting with the Porsches. We are limited to 48 entries per club so priority will be given to regular competitors.

Happy motoring in the fast lane.

Supersprint 5 - Eastern Creek

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Round 5 was completed at Eastern Creek in glorious Winter sunshine with a huge field of 65 cars starting the day. This was the first track day in years we were without our Clerk Of the Course Susan Kempt who unfortunately had a 3 day stint in hospital. I am glad to say she is home now and on the mend.

Almost ideal conditions saw some excellent times during the day.There was some serious competition doing testing including a Mosler GT, Lotus Exige S, Commodore V8 Supercar, Falcon Sports Sedan and Nissan time attack car.

Fastest Time for our Club cars went to Martin Higgins in a 1:39.85 after installing a new clutch that works.

Thank you to the  flaggies who volunteered their time and David Firmenger who stepped in as Clerk of Course.

6 Hour Teams Relay July 16/17

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

This event was run over the weekend July 16/17 with a total of 19 Teams competing including 4 from our Club. The Peak Race Team qualified fastest and started from Pole position. The Best BMW Team on handicap was Hawaka Racing with Blue Mountain Bullets and Peak Race Team very close behind them.

Each car has a nominated lap time and points are scored if you do not break out by going faster, bonus laps if you are within 1 second and penalty laps if you go under the target time. To mix things up the last hour was with a wet track helping the slower cars and penalising the fast ones.

* Hawaka Racing 9th 265 laps Index 48.469 (Williams , Herberstein, P.Allen, R.Allen, Kingsland)

* Blue Mountains Bullets 10th 256 laps Index 48.4321 (Hay, Winduss, Hodge, Callan)

* Peak Race Team 12th 271 laps Index 48.2702 (Scerri, Nolan, R.Hkiek & E.Hkiek)

* Peak Performance 15th 232 laps Index 43.9446 (K.Peek, D. Kapetanovic, K.Kapetanovic, Kruza)

In the old tradition of AROCA races I think this is a great event to get involved in for the future to foster increased driving skills and teamwork from supporters.

Motorsport at Winton

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

We have just returned from a perfect Winter Weekend in Benalla and Winton Raceway. A total of 22 drivers and 26 people made the trip for a combination of Inter-Club rivalry with the BMW Car Club Victoria and a great social time.
Friday night was a terrific dinner at the North Eastern Hotel, Saturday at the track and Saturday night at Georgina's restaurant for a more formal dinner. A few of us did the Ned Kelly tour to Glenrowan followed by the Milawa Gourmet Food District on Sunday.

Very cool conditions started the day on Saturday with ice needing to be scraped off the cars parked outside overnight. Clear skies developed and a top temperature around 15 saw some good performances. Nick and Keri Peek on full slicks struggled to get temperature in the tyres so it was Ed Kreamer in his Evo 6 who pulled the NSW FTD with a 1.36.98. Notable PB's to Arthur Scerri, Andrew Robinson and Sue Nolan by a wacking 5 seconds from last year.

Fame racing driver Peter Fitzgerald was there with his son driving a worked 135i pulled the fasted BMW time with a 1.36.50. There were 9 Porsches present testing ahead of their Sprint the next day so the top 2 filled the top of the time sheets."

Cheers, David
