Supersprint Round 4

Please note that because of the large numbers of people who attended the Winton Round in July the Motorsport Committee has decided to award points in the Championship still allowing everyone to drop one round in the final pointscore.

Supersprint Round 3
Sunday June 6 saw a healthy field of 61 starters for Round 3 of our Supersprint Championship at Wakefield Park. Very Cool and mostly clear conditions meant we got a dry track all day. Lots of newcomers combined with some Improved Production racecar drivers doing some testing prior to upcoming races saw a great variety of cars on the track. A highlight was 4 new E90/92 M3 V8's competing making some beautiful engine noises.
Fastest Time of the Day went to Brian Finn in a Porsche GT3 Cup car with a 1:05.1 battling all day with Nick Peek's E46 M3 finishing second 1:06.3. Thank you again to all the Officials who kept us going all day.

Motorkhana 1
A total of 29 drivers competed in our first Motokhana of the year in beautiful conditions at Eastern Creek. Four tests were carried out from a straight forward slalom in the dry to a more complicated circular test called "Oh What a Feeling" in the wet.
Some spectacular driving was witnessed but the clear winner was Allan Haywood in his new E82 125i followed by Murray Friend in his M roadster and Warwick Morton in his Audi A5 3.2 Quattro. One second back was James Allen in His Audi S3 Quattro, Emanuel Rassis in his E92 M3 and Matt Hart in a rapid Renault Clio Cup.
The Officials Choice of Driver of the Day went to Brett Heckenberg in his BMW E46 325ti.

Driver Training
Upon the Hume highway BMW's, some VW's and a few others emerged from the fog to join the club's driver training day at Marulan.
Following a short but comprehensive lecture from David and Alan, the group was treated to some demonstrations of the capabilities of Alan and his new 125. Eagerly followed, they expertly demonstrated the ideal lines through each and every corner.
By now the fog had lifted and mother nature provided ideal conditions for an exuberant dash around the track. Groups of 6 cars a time were assembled in the pit lane for release at 10 second intervals. This provided almost ideal spacing allowing a lap or two before challenging or being challenged for track position.
10 minute sessions gives a great run around the track. Opportunity for some great learning. All without over stressing the tyres, brakes or engine... unless of course you took an interesting excursion. Notably a Porsche and an M coupe saw drivers wishing they had brown overalls.
When all is said an done the Marulan Driver Training Centre provides a great facility which was enjoyed by all who came along.

Hi Clubsporters
Easter weekend saw the running of the Festival of Sporting Cars Car Clubs of Australia Regularity Festival. A total of 800 cars ran over the weekend including 170 Porsches for their National event. To say it was big was an understatement!
Around 30 of our Club were entered and to drive at full pace on Mt Panorama was a huge buzz for all of us. Our sessions saw around 55 cars on the track at once with a huge speed difference from fastest to slowest so we all learnt a huge amount about passing and being passed (anywhere was permissible).
I have attached the summary of results of the fastest times in the Regularity sessions for your information.
The next event is a Driver Training Day at Marulan Driver Training Centre. I highly commend this course to all new and inexperienced drivers to learn some performance driving, braking and cornering skills in a safe environment. Entries need to be in by next week.

Supersprint Round 2
Hi Clubsporters
What a contrast to our previous Round 1 Wakefield from wet and miserable to clear skies and great driving conditions. 49 entrants started the day with a good cross section of BMW's, 3 Porsches including a 996 Cup Car doing some practice and the "hired gun" Sam Markov from Victoria doing some setup work for Dave Nolan with his M3 GTR.
Sam also drove Colin Joss's M3 late on the day and recorded P1 and P2 for the day with the GTR doing an amazing 1:01.9 with more room to improve yet says Sam.

Supersprint Round 1

Hi Clubsporters
February 7 saw the running of Round 1 of our 2010 Supersprint Championship at Wakefield Park.
Wakefield provided again the most unpredictable weather! Every session was different from the one before with light showers repeatedly sweeping across the track , heavy rain and only 1 dry period of 40 minutes or so. This meant everyone got to practice wet weather driving for the first time in years with both increasing and decreasing levels of grip. Around 50 cars entered with a lot of new entrants so this was a difficult first day for many. Fortunately there was only 1 major incident with several minor ones with bogged cars caught in the sandtraps. Overall there were excellent wet weather driving skills on display.
A special thankyou to the Officials who manned the flag points and Clerk of Course who braved the horrible conditions.
We trialled the new electronic flag system that Wakefield Park recently installed and this was considered a success.
Happy motoring in the fast lane

Classes
For safety reasons, classes will not represent the groupings for cars running together on the race circuit, and individual's afternoon only lap times will be used to determine track groups during the course of each event.
It is up to each driver to disclose on an honesty basis to the modifications made to a vehicle on their entry form and when presented at scrutineering to determine the Competition Class. Any upgrades during the season will also need to be disclosed to determine if the Class has changed.
Full classification details can be downloaded in pdf format.

Scrutineering, briefing, entering the track
When you attend a track day there are some things you can do to make the day flow smoothly and thus maximise your time on the track.
You will see signs dotted about the track in strategic positions advising you what you should do next.
Of course seasoned track day attendees will be floating about to help you out but it pays to be pro-active.
The signs are available here for download.
It is recommended that you download and review them before you attend a track day.
