Driver Experience - Driver Training at HART

19 January 2020 at 7.30am

Our 19 January Driver Experience at Pheasant Wood Circuit becomes Driver Training and Introduction to Tarmac Rally at HART.
We all feel for our Australians who are fighting the fires and especially those who have lost family members, friends and property. Fires in the Pheasant Wood area have resulted in our having to cancel our Driver Experience day at that facility and we are fortunately able to replace this event. For years we have looked at running an event at the Honda Australia Roadcraft Training (HART) facility on Mona Vale Road, St. Ives and are lucky to be able to accept a day on their Road Circuit for 19 January.
HART was the original Police Driver/Rider Training facility. It has a wide range of driver training activities and we are using the Road Circuit. This is a 2KM two lane road that we can use for a range of driver training activities from braking, steering and acceleration tests as well as single lane road circuit and Tarmac Rally full road circuit. This day will include drive experiences for everyone. Ideal for member’s teenage children or other family members to participate and learn skills not achievable as part of normal road driving and the finer art to driving. We are considering accepting a group of juniors. Please email motorsport@bmwclubnsw.asn.au if you are interested in junior driving. Some of the groups will be those who hold NSW learners permits, P plates or drivers licences. We accept road registered cars (preferably BMWs) and unregistered track cars as long as they can all pass a simple scrutiny – safe and no leaks. We are also considering this facility for some off road driving for the X2, X3, X4, X5 and X6 group of members at a separate event in the future. In fact those cars would go well on all the road sections of this driver experience. Drivers can run with no helmet for driving tests but will need a helmet for faster event sections later in the day. Apparel is the normal neck to wrist to ankle non-synthetic clothes and appropriate shoes.
The day will be:
Arrive at 7:30 for sign-on and car scrutiny.
Driver Briefing, Safety, appropriate driving, track driving and Tarmac Rally driving.
Track walk with all the road characteristics discussed
Tests – Car Control, Braking, Steering, Cornering, Accelerating,
Track Driving – practice and challenges. Tarmac Rally driving. Supersprint driving practice.
We will be using some of the professional HART driving instructors as well as our own experienced Supersprint Drivers. Supersprint Drivers please volunteer as an instructors with an email to motorsport@bmwclubnsw.asn.au
